Biografie:
Desi este cunoscuta pentru calitatile ei comice, Whoopi Goldberg este si o actrita de drama excelenta. Nascuta Caryn Johnson pe 13 noiembrie 1955 in New York City, Goldberg si-a inceput cariera la varsta de opt ani, jucand la teatrul pentru copii din New York Helena Rubenstein.

In 1975, Goldberg s-a mutat in vest si a ajutat la fondarea San Diego Repertory Theater, unde a aparut in numeroase piese, printre care si Mother Courage si Getting Out. Goldberg a debuta la Hollywood cu rolul Celie, protagonista principala din filmul lui Steven Spielberg, mult controversatul film din 1985 o adaptare dupa romanul Aliceiei Walker, The Color Purple.
A devenit foarte apreciata dupa rolul ei alaturi de Sissy Spacek in drama The Long Walk Home (1989), urmat un rol de artista excentrica, posesoarea unor puteri supranaturale in 1990 in marele succes Ghost.

Cateva dintre rolurile memorabile in care a jucat le includ pe cele de mama singura in Made in America (1993), un rol de lezbiana cantareata in Boys on the Side (1995), in The Associate (1996), cea mai buna prietena a Angelei Bassett in 1998 in succesul How Stella Got Her Groove Back si detectiv particular in drama The Deep End of the Ocean (1999).

In plus, Goldberg a aparut in doua documentare remarcabile, The Celluloid Closet (1995) si Get Bruce! despre scriitorul de comedii Bruce Vilanch in care au mai aparut comedianti precum Robin Williams, Billy Crystal, Nathan Lane si Bette Midler.
