Biografie: S-a nascut John Charleton Carter pe 4 octombrie 1924 si a invatat la facultatea Northwestern. AÂ dobandit experienta jucand in cateva productii ale lui Peer Gynt cu scoala in 1941.
A debutat la Hollywood in filmul lui William Dieterle, Dark City, unde joaca alaturi de Lizabeth Scott. Marele succes vine atunci cand Cecil B. DeMille il distribuie in rolul lui Brad Braden in The Greatest Show on Earth (1952).
In 1959 Heston castiga un premiu Oscar, pentru cel mai bun actor, cu filmul Ben Hur, acela fiind apogeul carierei sale colosale.
